Leo the Lion is the mascot for the Hollywood film studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and one of its predecessors, Goldwyn Pictures, featured in the studio's production logo, which was created by the Paramount Studios art director Lionel S. Reiss. Since 1916 and through the time the studio was formed by the merger of Samuel Goldwyn's studio with Marcus Loew's Metro Pictures and Louis B. Mayer's.
The lion display at the MGM was nice while it lasted, and we enjoyed the interactions with the trainer that was on hand when we saw it. The habitat was too small at MGM, but there is a lot more room but seemingly more animals at Mirage.
As the 'Lion King' of Las Vegas, he's been taking care of exotic animals there for over 40 years. At the time, the ranch was closed to the public, but since they left the MGM Grand in 2012, the sanctuary is now a non-profit and open for visitors.
A lion attacked its trainer at the MGM Grand recently in front of a large group of tourists. In the video below, you see a lion going after a uniformed man and biting his leg. A couple captured it on tape while in Las Vegas for their honeymoon and appeared on the “Early Show” this morning to show their video and discuss the attack.
